Life Between Poles at Klangwerkstatt Berlin

Quiet Music Ensemble will join ensemble mosaik for this very special concert at the Klangwerkstatt Festival in Berlin, 8 November. Both ensembles come together for a new commission by composer Karen Power, life between poles, for 2 ensembles, Arctic and Antarctic ice, projected imagery, light and live resonant objects.

Irish composer Karen Power collected unique audio recordings during her explorations above, below, and inside the ice of the North and South Poles. Based on this material, life between poles (WP) was created – a 60-minute multimedia performance for two ensembles, video, light, surround sound, and live resonant objects. ensemble mosaik from Berlin and the Irish Quiet Music Ensemble will present this world premiere together. Not only the instrumental and sampled sounds and the large video projections interact in this work, but also the architectural and dialogical space between the musicians, performers, and the audience. In this way, the work creates a space in which the polar regions can resound and be perceived in all their uniqueness, beauty, fragility, and wildness.

Heroines of Sound, Berlin

QME will perform at the femist festival Heroines of Sound this summer in Berlin.

Heroines of Sound Festival presents early and current hero*ines of electronic sound exploring uncharted musical territory and making important contributions to current aesthetic discourses. Feminist, diverse, and interdisciplinary, the festival supports the presence of women and non-binary – FLINTA* in the art and music worlds and,  and makes the connections between different genres tangible.Heroines of Sound has set itself the task of (re)discovering  FINTA* protagonists in music and increasing the public presence of their music. By making the often forgotten and underappreciated quality and diversity of FLINTA* artists in the field of electronic music visible and audible, Heroines of Sound opens up new perspectives for an analysis of historical and current strategies of feministic musical practice.

Inquisitive, feminist, and controversial: all different and all equal, whether non-binary, female, or queer.

Programme:
Kathy Hinde: Acts of Balancing and Unbalancing
Karen Power/Atoosa Pour Hosseini/Mary Nunan: we return to earth (with guest performer Mary Nunan)
Anna Murray: Aioi: leaves laden with words (with guest performer Laura Sampson)
